koinobori.social

koinobori.social is a (free) microblogging service but over the mail. It does not require an account but it requires you to leave a house to drop it in the mailbox.

It is managed by the Koinobori project (koinobori.fish), a project dedicated to archiving "now". This is one branch of the project.

What are the general requirements?

Posts must follow the Contributor Covenant, must be less than 500 characters (soft limit), and should not be spammy in nature. Please use a national postal service that sends envelope mail and transfers it to USPS for final delivery in the U.S. as services like UPS or FedEx cannot make the final delivery to a U.S. Post Office Box.

Can I include an attachment?

Yes! But it must be the same size (or smaller) than a piece of American standard copy paper (8.5x11)

What is the address?

PO Box 1092
Locust Grove GA 30248-1092
United States of America
The ZIP+4® code is the PO Box Number, so 1092. It is advised to include this to speed up delivery.

What is the Koinobori project?

The Koinobori project is a curated archive of the present. The archive collects small, intentional records of people's lives now: books, photos, recordings, writing, and other personal materials submitted by the people who made them or lived with them. Rather than collecting everything, the archive is curated. Deposits are small, personal, and grounded in real experience, not a photo dump.

Why the mail?

Less spam and because mail is cool. You have to pay for a stamp and write (or type) things and put it in your mailbox, making the price to introduce lots of spam high. If your thought isn't worth 78 cents and a walk outside, maybe reconsider posting it.

Couldn't someone intercept it and read it?

Yes, so there is the (preferred) option to encrypt it in transit. It encrypts your text in the browser and generates a QR code that you print out. This gives us the benefit of not needing to transcribe your text and being able to process it on the same day. See the submit page for more details.
